Lawn care is a reliability business more than a mowing business. Almost everyone can cut grass. The reason people change companies is that the last one showed up whenever, sent a different guy each time, and stopped answering in August.

We schedule it, we show up on the day, and it's the same crew — which matters more than it sounds like, because after a few visits they know your gates, your dog, and the sprinkler head that sits proud on the corner.

If you only need a one-time cut on a lot that got away from you, that's fine too. That's most of what we do in June.

What drives the price

There's no rate card on the site yet, because a made-up range helps nobody. Here's what actually moves the number:

• Lot size and how much of it is actually turf
• Weekly costs less per visit than bi-weekly — there is less to cut each time
• Obstacles: trees, beds, fences and tight gates all add time
• Slope — the Redlands costs more than a flat city lot for the same square footage
• First cut on an overgrown lot is priced separately from ongoing service
